CM-057 - WCF 10.1: Effectually Called by God

Confessional Moments

About

Westminster Confession of Faith 10.1

“All those whom God hath predestinated unto life, and those only, He is pleased, in His appointed and accepted time, effectually to call…”

In this episode of Confessional Moments, we begin our study of Westminster Confession of Faith chapter 10 by examining the doctrine of effectual calling.

The Confession teaches that those whom God has eternally chosen for salvation are, in His appointed time, effectually called through the preaching of the Word and the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. Through this gracious work God enlightens the mind, softens the heart, renews the will, and draws sinners to Christ so that they come freely and willingly by His grace.

Drawing from Scripture and the insights of the Puritan and Reformed tradition, this episode explores how God’s sovereign call raises sinners from spiritual death, transforms the human heart, and brings believers into saving union with Christ.

Effectual calling reveals that salvation is not merely an invitation, but a divine act of resurrection in which God brings life to those who were spiritually dead.
