Recent updates to the KDIGO 2026 Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of Anemia in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) emphasized the expanded role of IV iron replacement therapy in patients with non–dialysis-dependent CKD. The updated guidance emphasizes proactive iron assessment, earlier identification of iron deficiency phenotypes, and individualized selection of iron replacement strategies to improve long-term patient outcomes. Other updates include reclassification of systemic iron deficiency and iron-restricted anemia, plus screening recommendations for iron deficiency and iron-deficient anemia.
