Vahan Teryan (1885–1920) was one of Armenia's greatest lyric poets and a major figure in modern Armenian literature. Born in the village of Gandza (now in Georgia), he studied in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, where he developed his literary talent and became involved in political and cultural activities. His first poetry collection, Twilight Dreams, brought him widespread recognition for its emotional depth and musical language. Teryan's poetry often explores themes of love, nature, melancholy, autumn, and the Armenian homeland. In addition to writing poetry, he translated works from several European languages and played an active role in public life. He died of tuberculosis at the age of 34, but his poems remain among the most beloved works in Armenian literature.
Վահան Տերյանի «Հոգևոր Հայաստան» հոդվածը (1914 թ.) կոչ է հայ ժողովրդին՝ ազգային վերածնունդը սկսելու ոչ թե միայն հայրենիքի ազատագրման պայքարից, այլ առաջին հերթին հոգևոր և մշակութային ինքնազարգացումից։ Տերյանը նշում է, որ ուժեղ պետություն և կայուն ապագա հնարավոր է կառուցել միայն այն դեպքում, երբ ժողովուրդն ունենա ամուր հավատ, կրթություն, ազգային գիտակցություն և միասնականություն։ Նրա կարծիքով, «նյութական Հայաստանը» կարող է գոյատևել միայն այն դեպքում, եթե նախ ստեղծվի «Հոգևոր Հայաստանը»՝ հիմնված բարոյական արժեքների, մշակույթի և ազգային ոգու վրա։ Այս հոդվածը համարվում է Տերյանի կարևորագույն հրապարակախոսական գործերից մեկը և այսօր էլ շարունակում է պահպանել իր արդիականությունը։
