About

Srpouhi Dussap (1840–1901) was an Armenian feminist writer and the first female novelist in Armenian literature. Born in Constantinople, she used her essays and novels to advocate for women’s education, independence, and equality in a deeply patriarchal society. Her groundbreaking novel Mayda (1883) was the first novel written by an Armenian woman, followed by Siranush and Araksia, all exploring the social and economic limitations faced by women. Through both her literary work and intellectual activism, Dussap became a pioneering voice of Armenian feminism and inspired future generations of women
