Grown Ass Man Podcast #007: Wait--I'm Greg DeMarco & He's Patrick O'Dowd
Chairshot Radio Network
The Grown Ass Man Podcast is back with Episode 7, and Greg DeMarco and Patrick O’Dowd start with facial hair and bowling alley straws before somehow ending up in a much deeper conversation about emotion, loss, health, setbacks, and what being a grown man actually looks like when life does not cooperate.
The episode opens with the continuing debate over Patrick’s clean-shaven existence and Greg’s campaign to bring back the goatee, which somehow turns into a bowling alley story about drinking water through a straw and one of Greg’s old stand-up bits. Greg also talks about wanting to get back on stage and the challenge of finding places to perform again.
Football takes over from there, with Greg and Patrick digging into college football rankings, bowl projections, Virginia Tech, Illinois, and the chaos surrounding conference realignment. Patrick breaks down an Illinois defensive collapse that led to a coaching change, reinforcing how quickly poor communication can wreck a team.
That leads into one of the episode’s strongest discussions: Caleb Williams showing emotion on the field and the backlash that followed. Greg and Patrick push back on the idea that male athletes should hide disappointment or vulnerability, expanding the conversation into how real social change usually happens through small, consistent steps rather than one dramatic breakthrough.
Patrick then highlights several “dad in sports” moments involving Case Keenum, Max Scherzer, and Justin Verlander, which turns into a broader discussion about farewells and why athletes—and fans—deserve the chance to properly say goodbye.
The tone gets heavier with the passing of PAC and the online tribalism that followed. Greg and Patrick discuss the rush to weaponize grief, create tribute content, and circulate deeply personal material, questioning why some people seem incapable of simply letting families grieve.
That theme becomes personal during Patrick’s Grown Ass Moment of the Week, when he talks about a recent health setback and concerning bloodwork. Rather than treating it as failure, he frames it as a reason to adjust, adapt, and keep moving forward.
Episode 7 is about sports, emotion, grief, health, friendship, and the uncomfortable situations that expose what maturity actually looks like. Being a grown ass man does not mean pretending nothing bothers you. Sometimes it means admitting that it does, figuring out what comes next, and continuing forward anyway.
And somewhere in the middle of all that, Greg and Patrick apparently need to remind themselves which one is Greg DeMarco and which one is Patrick O’Dowd.
