About two years back, I decided to take on a course in drawing characters for beginners. It helped ground me and give me direction as I was exiting a toxic situation. There was something about the way she drew her faceless characters. You could fill it in with your own imagination, and not be confined by the projection of how one is dictated to look.
Her name is sister Ameenah Abdus-Samad. A children’s book illustrator, art instructor and maker of digital resources over at Mariam Poppins.
