next there's a fresh twist to a much loved classic The Wind in the Willows

Ricky went to meet best selling children's author MG Leonard famous for Beetle Boy to find out more about her new book

we're surrounded by these beautiful Willow trees

a book first published over 100 years ago

why did you want to write another story continuing this world of the wind in the willows

well at first I didn't you didn't no I didn't because to me the wind in the willows is a very precious story

it was read to me as a child when I was about 5 years old at bedtime

I've always thought it was a piece of perfection

but one chapter always left Mayer with a series of questions about what happened to a little otter called Portly

and in this chapter Ratty comes home to Moley of an evening saying the otters really worried because his son Portly has gone missing

and everyone in the riverbank has been searching for days and can't find him

I suddenly thought well if you let me tell the story of what happened to Portley if I would love to do it

and that's how it all came about

one of the things that's lovely is to trace the path of the characters

and so when I was writing Portly the Otters Adventures I actually used E H shepherd's map

and in my book at home I've got little dotted pencil lines where I trace where Portly went to learn to swim

so I thought it was very important that Polly Dunbar the wonderful illustrator of this book put a map at the beginning and as you can see there's a lot of similarities

polly's drawings are inspired by some of the most iconic wind in the Willows illustrations by E H Shepherd
