Scott Kesterson on the AI rename: “They’re using the change of language to influence policy, law, and outcomes.”
WHAT THIS EPISODE COVERS
Executive Order 14434 tells federal agencies to say “superintelligence” instead of “artificial intelligence.” Scott Kesterson walks through what the order says, why the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) now has oversight, and how a rename can set up new rules for open-source AI. He starts with the televised firing squad announcement for the Fort Hood shooter and ties both stories to control of language ahead of the election.
BLOCK 4 — KEY QUESTIONS ADDRESSED
What does Executive Order 14434 change, and what does it leave alone?
Why would the biggest AI companies want more regulation?
How could a rename affect people who build AI on their own computers?
