राष्ट्रश्रद्धा

कस्यचन राज्ञः सभायाम् 'अस्मिन् राज्ये जनानां सन्तोषजीवनस्य कारणं किं भवितुम् अर्हति?’ इति विषयम् अधिकृत्य चर्चा जाता । अन्ते निर्णीतं यत् सेना, देशसमृद्धिः, राष्ट्रश्रद्धा चेति त्रीणि तत्त्वानि मुख्यानि इति । एतेषु अपि मुख्यं किम् इति जिज्ञासायां राजा कञ्चन संन्यासिनं दृष्ट्वा स्वस्य जिज्ञासां तस्य पुरतः उपस्थापितवान् । सुदीर्घायाः चर्चायाः अनन्तरं राज्ञा ज्ञातं यत् राष्ट्रश्रद्धा एव सर्वातिशायिनी इति । यदि सा न भवेत् तर्हि सैन्यसमृद्ध्योः सत्योः अपि राष्ट्रं सुदृढं न भवेत् । विपत्तिकाले अपि सा श्रद्धा एव दृढाधारः । अतः महता प्रयत्नेन राष्ट्रश्रद्धा परिरक्षणीया इति ।

In a king’s court, a discussion arose on the question: “What should be the cause of a happy life for the people of this kingdom?” Finally, it was decided that three factors are essential—army, national prosperity, and national faith. To know which among these is supreme, the king consulted a sage. After a long discussion, the king realized that national faith is the highest. Without it, even with a strong army and prosperity, the nation cannot remain firm. In times of crisis too, faith alone is the solid foundation. Therefore, national faith must be preserved with great effort.
