When Is It Time for More Senior Care? Warning Signs Families Should Know

Answers For Elders Radio Network

About

When is it time for an aging loved one to receive more help? And how can families recognize the signs before a crisis makes the decision for them?

On this episode of Answers for Elders Radio, host Suzanne Newman welcomes Lindsay Friedman, Founder and CEO of CareBLOOM and LT Care NAV, and Wendy Harris of CarePatrol of Greater Mobile and Northwest Florida. Together, they discuss the warning signs that an older adult may need additional support, from withdrawing from favorite activities and preparing fewer meals to concerns about hygiene, nutrition, fall risks, and difficulty managing everyday tasks safely at home.

Wendy explains why receiving care does not mean giving up independence. In many cases, the right support can actually help an older adult remain independent and continue living the life they want. The key is recognizing changes early and exploring options before a hospital discharge or other emergency forces the family to make a rushed decision.

The conversation also explores senior care options including in-home care, assisted living, memory care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other forms of support. Families are encouraged to start learning about their choices early, talk with their loved ones about their wishes, and build a plan that can adapt as needs change.

Wendy Harris is a Certified Senior Advisor and Certified Dementia Practitioner serving families throughout Greater Mobile, Alabama, and Northwest Florida. CarePatrol provides personalized senior care guidance at no cost to families.

If you're concerned that an aging parent or loved one may be struggling with everyday activities, this conversation offers practical guidance on what to watch for—and why it is better to explore your options before a crisis occurs.
