Most people think the Amazon is all about dangerous animals, but this trip was really about the people who call the rainforest home. After a long journey by boat through the Amazon River and its tributaries, I visited a local family, shared a home-cooked meal with them, and learned about daily life in one of the most remote places I've ever visited.
I also had the opportunity to tour a jungle school and speak directly with the students about their lives, their dreams for the future, and how life in the Amazon compares to life in the United States. It was one of the most eye-opening experiences of my entire trip to Peru.
Along the way, we searched the rainforest for wildlife, including sloths, monkeys, birds, and even anacondas hidden along the riverbanks.
