But the book of Ruth is a different story told in the Bible. A drought in the land of Israel was so severe that Elimelech and his family were forced to leave their home and migrate. Then Naomi, the wife of Elimelech, faced many hardships. When she left her homeland, she had a husband, children, and security, all of whom later died. Ruth loved her sister-in-law Naomi. Recently widowed, she asked Naomi to let her go wherever she went. She said from the bottom of her heart, “Your people will be my people, and your God my God!” The book of Ruth is also a story of God’s grace in difficult circumstances. Ruth’s story takes place during the period of the Judges, a period characterised by disobedience, idolatry, and oppression. Much like the times and periods of Afghanistan, injustice was seen. But no matter how hopeless the world may seem, there are always people who follow God. God uses anyone who gives himself to Him and is willing to do His will. Read, listen, and be encouraged by this book and story. God’s hand is at work in the world. He wants to use you. Just as God used Naomi, He can use you to lead your family and friends to Him. We begin as hopeless, rebellious strangers with no part in the kingdom of God. Then, when we risk everything by believing in Jesus Christ, God saves us, forgives our sins, rebuilds our lives, and gives us blessings that last forever.
