Be Faithful And Ask The Hard Questions
“I will stand at my watchpost and station myself on the rampart; I will keep watch to see what he will say to me and what he will answer concerning my complaint.” - Habakkuk 2:1
Being faithful doesn’t require us to turn off our brains. Being faithful doesn’t mean that we are without our questions and without our doubts.
In the Gospel of Matthew’s telling, Jesus’s closest living disciples were with the risen Jesus before he ascended into heaven. The text said they all worshipped him, but some doubted.
Jesus didn’t condemn the doubters. He sent them out into the world to make students just as he sent the non doubters.
The writer of Habakkuk had some serious questions. Evil was ascendant and the wicked were prospering. The writer was essentially asking God, “What do we do now, what do we do next?’
Be faithful. Let us be determined to stand our post while we wait for answers. God isn’t offended by the questions.
