Huntsville Has More in Common With Colorado Springs Than Cullman | Pastor Zach Carter

1819 News: The Podcast

About

Huntsville is one of the fastest growing metro areas in the country. Over the last five years, roughly one in four people who moved there came from cities that missiologists classify as post-Christian.

Pastor Zach Carter has been modeling what that does to a county. His conclusion, delivered to rooms full of Madison and Limestone County pastors, is that the Huntsville area should now be treated less like Cullman and more like Colorado Springs.

Bryan Dawson, who was born in Colorado Springs and watched Colorado go from reliably red to deep blue, knows exactly what that comparison means. Colorado Springs had Fort Carson, Peterson Air Force Base, NORAD, the Air Force Academy, Focus on the Family, and New Life Church. Military money, federal jobs, and Christian institutions were on every side. It secularized anyway.

Carter's answer is not a political program. "The solution to dechurching is more churches. The solution to paganization is more churches."

"Politics is downstream from culture, and culture is downstream from religion."
