About the station
NCU FM started operating at Northern Caribbean University, in Jamaica, as WIC Radio 88.3 FM in 1999 and served the campus and a small portion of the College community with a 100-watt transmitter. It offered a revolving playlist of gospel songs. That year, the College received University status and this small media entity was expected also to be the training ground for Mass Communication students as the institution sought to expand that media programme. In 2001, an application was submitted to the Broadcasting Commission for an all-island commercial license, which the University received in March 2009. The radio station was then rebranded NCU FM. In November 2010.
