DIL FM was established in 1996 in East London. It Incorporated the previously hugely successful Unique FM (1995)
DIL FM received rave reviews from the listeners & the group embarked on a campaign for a commercial radio station for the young British Asian community of East London.
Unfortunately, DIL FM were not able to secure this license despite having an extremely strong application. This was due in part to tremendous competition for the license as well as internal politics by the then Radio Authority.
After initially awarding the license to an Asian group Asia FM, the Radio Authority did a complete about turn when it was highlighted that Asia FM's application contained financial irregularities. Instead of choosing between the remaining Asian group applicants, The Radio Authority awarded the license to a mainstream English radio station Active FM,
DIL FM not deterred, regrouped and broadcast a further RSL license for 28 days in 2002. Once again, huge support was received from the listeners. At this time there was not any further radio licenses available,
Community radio has seen a dramatic rise over the past decade & the radio landscape has changed vastly. Even more so internet radio has exploded across the industry.
After a long time away, the management at DIL FM has decided that the time is right to return to serve & entertain our loyal listeners who have consistently supported us since 1995.
We are broadcasting live shows, several days of the week at this stage. If you ever miss any of our shows, you can listen again as all our on-air content is included in our nonstop DIL FM Mix. This is broadcast 24/7 and can be accessed via the Zeno media player at the top of this page.
It is our aim to produce & present more live content in the future. We will keep you updated with developments as & when they happen. In the meantime, we hope that you enjoy listening to our station & to the best mix of music, which we can confidently say will be very hard to find anywhere else.
