The Vassar and Radcliffe educated Carolyn Verhoeff taught kindergarten and published three books for kindergarten-aged children: All About Johnnie Jones, Four Little Fosters, and Love Me, Love My Dog. She was a president of the Kentucky Animal Rescue League and she campaigned for the humane treatment of animals used for medical research.
